I don't believe in "writers block". I believe in boring people. I believe in stupid decisions. I believe in mundane existence. I believe in same shit, different day. I believe in not knowing how to capture perfectly, so why bother. But I don't believe in "have nothing to say."

Tonight's slam was pretty darn awesome! I love it when a poet breaks out to that next level and really gets into the poem. Tonight there were two of those cats (Ed Plunkett and Patrick). Seriously: I'm not the kind of cat who "amens" a poem during performance. I enjoy them, I laugh or whatever, but I don't snap fingers and I don't grunt ( Read more... )

First, let me state that last night really, really was a great night.  We had people in every chair in the place, on the floor, looking in from the propped open side door from the street...awesome.  SO many new people, and so many people who are starting to become regulars.  We're doing something right this year!

If you run a poetry night long enough there will be moments when you can literally note when it's taken a step up to another level or dropped down a notch to another level.  Eras of local poets come and go, traditions are lost and new ones implemented...it's all part of the culture of poetry nights, be they slams or open mics or academic readings ( Read more... )
